The opening session featured speeches by Uygar Özesmi, President of Türetim Ekonomisi Derneği (Prosumer Economy Society), and Prof. Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz, Rector of Kadir Has University. Following the opening, a panel brought together Katherine Trebeck (Co-founder, Wellbeing Economy Alliance), Amitabh Behar (Executive Director, Oxfam International), Mads Christensen (Executive Director, Greenpeace International), and Rowan Conway (Deputy Director, Just Transition Finance Lab & Visiting Professor at UCL). Panelists shared diverse perspectives on new economies and solidarity practices.
The summit convened 24 global organizations from across continents and more than 90 speakers. The first day began with the CatalystNow Community Gathering, designed to strengthen collaboration across communities. This was followed by “The Change: A Transformative Economies Board Game”, facilitated by Murat and Barış Soysaraç, held in two sessions. Through this interactive experience, participants explored the dynamics of transformative economies in practice. At the same time, the Private Sector Roundtable, moderated by Ekin Al and Uygar Özesmi, brought together business leaders to discuss the practical applications of new economic models.
In the afternoon, one of the highlights was Next Economies 101, presented by Duru Uslu, Oana Branzei, Dovev Lavie, and Uygar Özesmi, offering participants a comprehensive introduction to the concept of new economies. Running in parallel, ATÖLYE hosted a workshop titled “Creating Transformation Systems for a Next Economy”, focusing on designing transformation systems.
Across the day’s sessions, discussions ranged from wellbeing-oriented models to the urgency of transformation in the face of the climate crisis, from the financial aspects of a just transition to addressing global inequalities.
The summit will continue on September 13–14 with further panels and sessions.
